May 6, 2014 - PRLog -- ARLINGTON, VA – May 6, 2014 – The American Management Association (AMA), the global leader of comprehensive talent development, joins more than 9,000 learning colleagues from around the globe at the ASTD 2014 International Conference & Exposition, held this week in Washington, D.C., May 4-7 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center.

AMA serves this year as a Platinum Sponsor at ASTD and kicked off their first of three sessions on May 5 in the government pavilion. Stewart Liff, renowned government human resource and performance management expert, author and AMA Enterprise facilitator, spoke on ‘Engaging and Motivating Government Employees,’ providing attendees with the latest strategies in the areas of motivating employees and team development.

“ASTD is a wonderful way to connect with people at all levels in the training and development industry,” said Sam Davis, Vice President, AMA Enterprise Government Solutions. “The high attendance in Mr. Liff’s session was a great indication of government professionals’ keen interest in training that motivates and engages employees.”

AMA’s second session also took place on May 5, where Vivianna Guzman, Executive Vice President, AMA and Jay Jamrog, Senior Vice President, Research, i4cp, spoke on ‘How High-Performing Organizations are Developing Global Leaders at all Levels.’ This session highlighted the results of a comprehensive study on best practices in global leadership development. Conducted by i4cp, American Management Association, and Training magazine, this annual study examines which leadership competencies combine to make effective global leaders, what learning programs high-performing organizations are focusing on, and how these companies build more influential leaders at all levels. Participants received complimentary copies of the research and discussed insights from the findings.

Taking place today, May 6, AMA’s third session will focus on ‘Talent Transformation Solutions for Global Leadership,’ and will also be presented by Vivianna Guzman and Jay Jamrog. This session will look at how the role of leaders at all levels is changing and becoming much more critical, especially the role of the individual contributor and immediate supervisor. Research conducted by i4cp and American Management Association reveals four leadership behaviors that are gaining in importance for building and sustaining high performance in global organizations: Execution, Influence, Relationship Building, and Strategic Thinking. This session will explore how to identify, assess, develop and measure these important components of global leadership.
