Whitney Fire Department Moves into New Building Provided By Bobbitt

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - April 28, 2014 - PRLog -- Bobbitt Design Build recently completed a new one-story addition for Whitney Fire Department located on Bryant Road, making the overall station approximately 13,500 square feet in size.

The 7,571-square-foot addition provides a modern station designed to effectively accommodate full-time staff and expanded operations. The structure includes sleeping quarters for 10 volunteers, a large dining area and kitchen, offices for all paid personnel, and gender-specific areas for female volunteers.

The building was designed to coordinate with the neighboring school and other local surroundings. A new brick façade covers the entire structure with accent brick to highlight the curves of the new station and project a clean, modern image. The existing apparatus building is capped with a new cornice clad in the same stucco material as the in the new building, providing design continuity.

The building site was narrow and deep, proving to be a challenge with location and layout of the new station. By keeping the apparatus bays intact, Bobbitt effectively located the addition to minimize the impact on the site. Architrave, Inc. (http://www.architraveonline.com/) delivered the building design, and the project was designed with these and other limitations in mind.

Whitney Fire Department was organized in 1958 at a meeting in the First Baptist Church of Whitney. The first station was a two-bay white block building next door to the old Whitney Elementary School, but Whitney Fire later moved into their current, larger station at 220 Byrant Road.
