Angela Glover Blackwell Honored by Center for Urban Families

Blackwell will be the national honoree at the center’s 3rd Urban Visionary Awards ceremony.

BALTIMORE - April 2, 2014 - PRLog -- The Center for Urban Families (CFUF) will honor founder and CEO of PolicyLink, Angela Glover Blackwell as its national honoree at the organization’s 3rd Urban Visionary Awards in June. Blackwell, a well-known social activist, will join local honoree Wes Moore in a thought-provoking “living room chat” about challenges and solutions for urban communities as one of the event highlights.

Blackwell has served as leader of the Oakland, California-based research and action institute, PolicyLink, since 1999 and continues to drive its mission of advancing economic and social equity. She is also a frequent commentator for some of the nation’s top news organizations including The New York Times, the Huffington Post and the Washington Post. CFUF Founder and CEO, Joe Jones commented “Angel Glover Blackwell has done amazing work as a passionate advocate in the economic and social policy arena. We are honored to have her join us to share her thoughts and experiences at this year's ceremony.” Past Urban Visionary Award recipients include Marian Wright Edelman, founder and president of the Children’s Defense Fund and her husband Peter Edelman, distinguished law professor at Georgetown; Geoffrey Canada of the Harlem Children’s Zone; philanthropists Eddie and Sylvia Brown; President and CEO of the Associated Black Charities, Diane Bell-McKoy; and Open Society Foundation campaign manager, Shawn Dove.
