 | President Signs Flood Bill, No Immediate Changes for HomeownersBy: Condon-Meek, Inc. Clearwater, FL - March 21, 2014 - The President signed bill H.R. 3370 into law this afternoon and while it’s a step in the right direction there are some key points from the National Flood Insurance Program that homeowners MUST understand: •H.R.3370 specifies timetables for implementation of the reforms. It is highly unlikely that any H.R.3370 reforms will be implemented in less than a year. Please keep in mind that while Biggert-Waters was signed and enacted July 2012, its first provisions were not implemented until the October 1 changes in 2013, 15 months later. •Biggert-Waters will remain the law under which agencies and the National Flood Service will operate for the foreseeable future. Nothing will change until FEMA issues rules, regulations and interpretations. •We want toemphasize that despite passage of this bill, nothing changes right now in requirements for new policies, for renewals or for any other aspect of the National Flood Insurance Program. Condon-Meek, Inc has a carrier that is able to write your home and flood policy together, with a less expensive premium than stand alone flood insurance. Trace Meek is one of the first agents in the state able to give homeowners a same-day quote and no elevation certificate is needed. Visit www.homeplusflood.com for more information and to get a quote. Condon-Meek has been family-owned since 1954.
