By: Carlisle Events Import & Kit Nationals weekend has been ongoing since 1986 and is, in fact, the fourth longest tenured show on the Carlisle Events’ season schedule. What makes the weekend so popular is the eclectic mix of cars and vending options available on the grounds. Better yet, because of the perfect combination of kit and import cars, the weekend is the largest of its type in the country. In what can best be described as a festival atmosphere, Carlisle hosts live music, a special passport program where guests traverse the grounds to view the show cars, have a special booklet stamped, then earn prizes - all for doing what they already do onsite…enjoy the displays. This weekend is also popular because it hosts multiple FREE seminars with industry experts, is a great place for car clubs to gather and share automotive passions and with the spring season fresh on the minds of enthusiasts, a scenic cruise is often a must-do after spending some time on grounds. Buy, sell and trade - that helps make the weekend even more special. The swap meet overall is large but even more so, the vending space allocated for kit car enthusiasts makes Carlisle's weekend a must-visit for anyone who is into the kit car scene. Kits on display also are a popular draw. Cars like the Shelby Cobra and offerings from Porsche, its Speedster and Spyder, are three of the most popular kits seen at Carlisle. Further, while the dune buggy scene originated on the west coast, at Carlisle visitors are guaranteed to see a few dozen of them onsite. Additional weekend features include a very special Standard of Excellence Judging format, Club Awards, a vintage race prepared display presented by Vintage Motorsport and onsite autocross. Standard of Excellence is limited to 12 cars but allows for professional judging during an otherwise non-judged event. The race paddock of cars welcomes all race-themed cars that have either seen track time or are mocked up to look like they're ready to run. The autocross excitement runs throughout the weekend and allows enthusiasts the chance to see what their rides can do in a controlled and safe environment. Finally, the live music anchors the event with a wide variety of sounds. Bands local and regional to Carlisle play multiple onsite locations and with tens of thousands of enthusiasts passing through the gates and thousands of cars to enjoy, this is a great way to experience the Import & Kit Nationals. The sounds of jazz, rock and even some blues will fill the air, making the weekend almost as much of a musical festival as it is an automotive one. Bands are slated nearly non-stop, meaning from the time the gates open Friday through the end of Sunday, there is literally something for everyone. End
