HOLLYWOOD, Calif. - Feb. 28, 2014 - PRLog -- The 86th Academy Awards takes place on Sunday night from Hollywood, California and all the stars will be donning their best outfits on the red carpet - but who will be going home with the gongs? Leading independent odds comparison site easyodds.com shows that the bookies think all the major categories are already wrapped up, with short priced favourites for each of the big six prizes.

Editor Simon Hopper said: “We are seeing lots of money for the favourites in the main categories for the Oscars on Sunday night. If the bookies have got these right – it could be an expensive hangover for some come Monday morning.”

In the best actor category, Matthew Mcconaughey is 2/9 to win for his powerful and pained performance in ‘Dallas Buyer’s Club’ as entrepreneurial AIDS victim Ron Woodroof. The American actor lost 40 pounds providing him with the perfect frame and striking look for his knockout performance.

Australian Cate Blanchett is the stupendous price of 1/25 to follow up her BAFTA win with the best actress award for her turn as a former socialite suffering mental collapse following a separation from her rich financier husband in ‘Blue Jasmine’. She is a landslide favourite and the bookies’ best price reflects that.

Like McConaughey, Jared Leto is also favourite in his category – best supporting actor – for his role in ‘Dallas Buyer’s Club’ as Rayon, a transgender woman who starts an unlikely relationship with a straight, homophobic man. It has been said that Leto – who dressed and lived as Rayon throughout the shoot – did not get on with his lead man at all during the filming. He is a best price of 1/10 to win, in what could be a successful night for ‘Dallas Buyer’s Club.’

Lupita Nyongo is just about favourite at 5/6 to win best supporting actress for her role as Patsey in ‘12 Years A Slave’, a slave who becomes the object of her brutal master's sexual obsessions. Obviously a harrowing and serious role, Lupita’s performance is full of empathy, heart and emotion and it is small wonder she has been made favourite. She is being pushed close by Jennifer Lawrence at 5/4. This looks to be the only close run category from the big six.

12 Years A Slave is favourite to scoop the prize of best motion picture, with a best price of 2/7. The epic drama film and adaptation of the 1853 memoir by Solomon Northup is tough to watch, but a brutally honest and emotive account of a real-life tragedy.

In the best director category, the visually magnificent futuristic space yarn ‘Gravity’ was five years in the making and Alfonso Cuaron is a very short 1/16 to be crowned best director at this year’s Oscars.
