Purpose built Touch Tank arrives at WNC’s Team ECCO

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. - Feb. 6, 2014 - PRLog -- Delays in its arrival were caused by the regions snow storms.  Team ECCO has been a hive of excitement since, its arrival and is now being prepared for the opening if the center this month.

The new tank will serve as a true experience for guests and program participants.   The tank hold 100 gallons of sea water, and measures 60” l  x   32”  w   x  36 “ H.    The tank is completely mobile and has a self-contained filter and chiller system.   The tank will be located in the center floor, and will include urchins, sea stars, anemones, and crabs that you will be able to reach in and touch – and even pick up – with assistance from our team of trained student volunteers, the Aqua Guides.

Over the course of the next few weeks, the water base and sand systems must cure – develop living good bacteria to handle animal waste and human dirt from hands.  Once this process is complete then live animals will be gradually added to the tank environment.

It is planned that the tank will be officially opened during a private event in March for the tank sponsors and Team ECCO members.   The general public will be invited to attend a Community Awareness Day on March 15, 2014, with the Aquarium  being open free to the public from 1- 5 pm.
