SAUTEE, Ga. - Jan. 29, 2014 - PRLog -- With the city in snow lockdown today Sociercise, LLC announced that they will be hosting a virtual running event on their platform to benefit the Animal Humane Society.  The event consists of three separate events.  Each event allows participation from anywhere in the country and participants can run their own distances at their own times.

As the weather clears up in March runners from around the world can participate in a running event while at the same time helping the Animal Humane Society find permanent homes for cats and dogs.  The Miles For Pets (visit http://www.sociercise.com/charity-racing-dashboard/?race_id=11757)series of events consist of a Virtual Run which allows participants to log their times for select distances as they are completed during the month of March.  Upon completion participants will receive the custom medal for the event.

The second event is a Virtual Charity Race that will take place March 1st-7th.  During the Virtual Charity Race participants can collect pledges for each mile they complete during the racing period.  Donors can select a pledge amount per mile, a minimum donation, and a maximum donation.  At the completion of the event the Sociercise Platform will calculate the donations and send the donations to the Animal Humane Society.  At the conclusion of the event participants will receive an award medal.

The third event, appropriate for early in the year, is a Meet the Goal Challenge.  During this event participants can select a goal period and their desired goals using the Sociercise Real Time Running Races app for iPhone.  When they’ve met their goals they can share the information and receive an award medal.

Two teams, Canine Defenders, and Feline Friends, will be competing against each other to see which group can raise the most money for the Animal Humane Society.  The AHS is the leading animal welfare organization in the Upper Midwest.  The organization’s programs include adoption and pet surrender, animal rescue, pet services, and outreach programs.

Tom Vinkler, one of the co-founders of Sociercise said “We are excited to put together this team challenge and series of running events to benefit AHS.  We think these events will allow animal loving runners to participate in an activity they enjoy while at the same time helping cats and dogs find permanent homes.”

Registration for this event is currently open with registration fees starting at just $15 for the Virtual Charity Race and $25 for the other two events.  There is a limited number of registrations available to receive the award medal and each team is limited to 20 participants.

More information about the event can be found on the Facebook event page located at https://www.facebook.com/events/496755120443592/.  Individuals wishing to learn more about the Animal Humane Society can visit http://www.animalhumanesociety.org.
