Develop skills in system improvement in ‘Pump Optimization: Performance, Reliability & Efficiency

JOHOR BAHRU, Malaysia - Jan. 21, 2014 - PRLog -- ‘Pump Optimization: Performance, Reliability & Efficiently’ workshop was scheduled on 14-17 April 2014, International 5-Star Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. This year, Top Link Conference & Event Management continue collaboration with Mr. John Tonkin to present this workshop to all delegates to gain a clear appreciation of the steps required to design pumping systems that minimise the cost of ownership (Life Cycle Cost) while meeting all the requirements of the intended process.

Modern technology is moving at a blistering pace and the world of pumps is part of this change. Computer software can now easily model pipe work systems, select pumps, calculate energy losses (in individual pipes!) and draw up bills of quantity, literally in seconds. In the right hands these tools are massive time savers, training aids, and excellent facilitators of communication within the organisation and with clients. In the wrong hands they can be generators of costly mistakes. Access to a laptop during the course will be very beneficial as there will be a number of manufacturer-specific and generic software programs demonstrated that will be run during the course. The course leader will also provide a number of Excel routines to do basic calculations such as impeller affinity laws and cost effective pipe sizing.

This course provides participants with the knowledge required to select, operate, and maintain pumps in their facilities. The course is based on practical knowledge allowing delegates to make immediate impact when they return to their facilities, improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the pumping operations.

Through the workshop, delegates can understand basic pump theory, including the underlying physical principles and handle the mathematics typically associated with pump operation. They also can learn various types of pump curves and how to interpret each of them. By knowing what maintenance is required, problems with important pump components such as bearings, packing, and seals can be minimize. Other than that, our delegates will be able to plan necessary pump maintenance activities in an effective and efficient manner.

Our workshop will be lead by John Tonkin who coming from South Africa. Having started his career in power stations, John progressed through the merchant marine (steam) and onto the design, marketing and after-sales support of pumps, pipe work systems and valves. As Director of Marketing for one of South Africa’s premier pump companies, John was responsible for the Research and Development, and for the local and international marketing departments for this company. The company philosophy was one of involvement in the complete system that not only demanded responsibility for the pumps but also assisting with the design, installation, commissioning and troubleshooting of the pipe work,  valves and electrical components. John’s style is practical and straight forward with the ultimate programme objective being positive behaviour change. Some of the John’s clients include SASOL Synfuels, Anglo American, Wilo Pumps South Africa, Xylem (formerly ITT Flygt) ESKOM, PetroSA. John has been able to offer practical solutions to all aspects of the fluid movement market.
