Jan. 17, 2014 - PRLog -- 2014 marks the 100th anniversary of the start of the ‘Great War’ and, to commemorate the occasion, Middle East travel specialist operator Corinthian Travel has put together a special 10-day itinerary, ‘Lawrence of Arabia & the First World War’ (http://www.corinthiantravel.co.uk/jordan-holidays/lawrence-first-world-war), which focusses on the wartime activities of Lawrence in the deserts of Arabia.

The extent of T.E Lawrence’s contribution to the First World War has been hotly debated; what is not in question is that his exploits with the Bedouin in the deserts of Arabia almost 100 years ago, captured the imagination of the age.

Modern Jordan is the stunningly beautiful desert kingdom in which many of the key events in Lawrence’s First World War operations were enacted.

The country was also the dramatic stage for many sequences in David Lean’s epic film ‘Lawrence of Arabia’ which starred the late Peter O’Toole.

This privately chauffeured tour has been designed to explore the main Lawrence sites in Jordan as well as showcase the country’s great archaeological heritage.

Commencing with three nights in the capital Amman – including a private tour of the city – highlights from the Lawrence story which are featured in the itinerary include seeing the ‘Seven Pillars of Wisdom’ in Wadi Rum, a desert crossing to Mudawwara – the site of Lawrence’s most daring raid on the Hejaz Railway – and visiting the house of Sharif Hussain Bin Ali of Mecca in Aqaba.

There will also be a chance to visit the locations of the battles of Abu Al Lasan and Tafileh, and to meet descendants from the Bedouin tribes who fought alongside Lawrence almost a century ago.

The itinerary also includes some of Jordan’s other ‘must see’ places including Petra, plus a chance to relax by the Dead Sea – the lowest point on earth

The holiday can be enjoyed any time between March and November (though some might find the summer months too hot) and costs from £1775 per person (two sharing).

This includes nine nights’ accommodation, some meals, all transportation (including 4X4 jeep in the desert) on a private basis, sightseeing and entrance fees as per itinerary, and private tours with English speaking guides at key sites.
