Guesthouse Projects Guides "Wrecking Crew" Film to Finish Line

Palm Springs, CA-based artist relations and PR firm helps award winning music documentary achieve Kickstarter funding.

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - Jan. 2, 2014 - PRLog -- Guesthouse Projects has successfully completed a Kickstarter crowd-funding project for the award winning music documentary, “The Wrecking Crew.” The Palm Springs, California-based PR and artist relations company handled all aspects of public relations including social media, press relations, corporate relations as well as artist and celebrity participation.

The film tells the story of the Los Angeles-based session musicians of the late 1960s who played on virtually every hit song coming out of the West Coast. Music for artists such as The Beach Boys, Jan and Dean, The Monkees, Byrds and others all used members of the Wrecking Crew for their instrumentation. The film had been completed but needed funding to pay off licensing and other fees due in part to the large amount of music gleaned from master tracks of the sessions.

The original goal was $250,000 and that amount needed to be raised in 51 days – Kickstarter is an “all or nothing” format. Guesthouse Projects’ owner Greg McVeigh said, “We knew that raising that kind of money during the holiday season in a short amount of time was going to be a challenge.”

McVeigh put together a team of experts in their respective fields, including Michael Newman Consulting of Escondido, CA to advise on the social media aspects. In addition, Detroit-based Groovebox Studios, who specialize in Kickstarter programs assisted with the overall funding strategy.

“Grabbing the artists social media coattails was huge. One post from Cher on Facebook or a tweet from Joe Satriani, just to name two, caused pledges to increase dramatically. Also, bloggers and industry experts like Steve Guttenberg at Cnet.com made things happen.”

McVeigh was also able to garner support from professional audio products manufacturers such as Heil Sound microphones and Fender guitars. Both companies used their substantial social media networks to spread the word.

Denny Tedesco, the director of the film said,  “Greg brought his unique skill set to this project. By knowing both the PR side as well as his contacts in the music industry, he was the perfect fit. We were under an extremely tight deadline for funding and he brought in the right team that understood the challenge. We not only met the goal but also exceeded it by 20%. This film can now be released to mass distribution.”
