NDOP, Cameroon - Dec. 27, 2013 - PRLog -- The American Institute of Cameroon (AIC) is now poised to start classes on-campus come January 6, 2014. Created in 2012 with only online and long distance education programs, the Institute which offers American style education customized to the needs of Cameroonian/African students now has a campus in Ngoketunjia Division of the North West Region of Cameroon. From January 2014, the Institute will operate fully from this location with plans to open campuses in other parts of Cameroon and Africa. Some of the programs will be offered in a hybrid method, that is both online and on-campus thereby giving students the flexibility and ease they need to study. The Institute offers Associate (HND), Bachelor’s and Postgraduate degrees in mostly professional programs.

The mission of the American Institute of Cameroon is to provide high quality, affordable, and practical education nationally and internationally by equipping students with the insights and values as well as the skills and flexibility they need to light their way through the Twenty-First Century.

Asked about the American nature of the Institute, the Chair of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Oscar C. Labang noted that the syllabi and method of teaching and learning are adapted from those of American universities. Also, he mentioned that most of the text books that are used are the same with the ones used in American universities. Most importantly, Dr. Labang pointed out that major courses in each program will be taught by American Professors and Scholars through the Digital Campus. The Digital Campus is a Video Lecture System (VLS) which allows students at AIC to receive the same lectures with students at some world renowned universities in the US.

AIC is an institution of higher learning that has an American framework and a Cameroonian character. American methods and syllabi are adopted and adapted to the needs of the student population in Africa and Cameroon. AIC’s curricula across all disciplines are skill-directed and career-oriented. The needs of the individual student are at the center of everything we do at AIC. Unlike in most other institutions in Cameroon, at AIC the class sizes are relatively small, and all Academic Staff follow an “open door” policy with regard to consultation. Academic Staff are given ample opportunities to conduct research and make contributions to scholarship in the domain of specialization.

At AIC we work towards developing a culture of excellence by combining American educational values and methods with the realities of Cameroon and Africa. The Institute uses both academic staff and practicing professionals to give students a complete picture of their career.

AIC is situated 100 Meters below the Legal Department in Ndop, on the stretch of road from the Police Post to the St Peter and Paul Catholic Church. AIC is strategically located in the Ndop plain, which provides a serene academic environment where students can focus better and use their imagination is great ways. Ngoketunjia also provides the environmental beauty and cultural diversity that is needed to make academic life complete.
