RALEIGH, N.C. - Dec. 3, 2013 - PRLog -- David E. Fessenden’s whodunit novel, The Case of the Exploding Speakeasy, reflects his love for history and for the Sherlock Holmes stories of Arthur Conan-Doyle. Caught in Philadelphia’s organized crime world of the 1920s, Thomas Watson – newspaper reporter and son of Dr. John Watson, friend and assistant to Sherlock Holmes – must solve a murder before he becomes the next victim.

Attempting to escape the shadow of his father, Thomas leaves London for Philadelphia and becomes a newspaper reporter. After the death of both his father and Sherlock Holmes, Thomas finds himself saddled with the responsibility of caring for Holmes’ older brother Mycroft.

After a suspicious explosion at a speakeasy kills the owner and his card-playing buddies, young Watson finds himself in the middle of the biggest story of his career. Ironically, his friend and butler is the principal suspect in the police investigation.

While struggling to uncover clues, Thomas crosses paths with a bootlegger and his goons and is “encouraged” to find the killer. Now he must quickly solve the mystery of who blew up the speakeasy. Mycroft has the mystery solved, but he keeps quiet so that Thomas can figure it out for himself. Can Thomas turn the scant clues into a solution before he becomes the next victim?
