KP Yohannan’s Believers Church celebrates World Food day, Maharashtra

DELHI, India - Nov. 29, 2013 - PRLog -- Believers Church, founded by Bishop Dr. KP Yohannan, celebrated the World Food Day on October 16, 2013 by organizing a food distribution program at Jann Kalyan Ashram in Kalundre, Maharashtra. The Believers Church team prepared and distributed Vegetable Biryani (Mughal dish) with Jalebi (sweets) to 90 orphaned children and 60 elderly people.

The children were overwhelmed with this act of compassion and the elderly showered many blessings and expressed their sincere gratitude to the leadership of the church Bishop Dr K P Yohannan for his kindness and benevolence as this was the very first time they had eaten biryani. The Chairman of the Jann Kalyan Ashram said, “Organizations like the Believers Church are the main reason why the underprivileged have hope for food and survival and for this reason I thank Dr. K P Yohannan for his unwavering service to humanity.”

Each year, the World Food Day (WFD) is celebrated around the world on October 16^th in honor of the founding of the FAO or Food and Agriculture Organization, United Nations in 1945. It is celebrated widely across many countries and in organizations that are concerned with food security, inclusive of the World Food Program. The main theme carries a message of stabilizing "Sustainable Food Systems for Food Security and Nutrition." Since its establishment, this day is celebrated in 150 countries, every year wherein every effort is being made to raise awareness of issues behind hunger and poverty.

WFD offers the opportunity for many to strengthen the national and international solidarity and work collectively to fight starvation, malnutrition and poverty with the main aim to ensure adequate food supplies. Later in the day, 160 packets of food were distributed to people surviving on the streets, footpath and railway stations. With many such initiatives, Believers Church has been selflessly serving humanity in such impoverished sections of the country and aims at the holistic development of the nation and its people. With over 23 lakh members, Believers Church is active throughout India and 10 other countries under the leadership of its Metropolitan.
