SensMaster announces sensor centric wristband tag for people safety. Has NFC option

GOTHENBURG, Sweden - Nov. 21, 2013 - PRLog -- 21th November, 2013 – Tristan is a watch-style sensor tag intended for people safety, personnel tracking and security. It is designed to be used at ranges up to 60 metres regardless of the tag’s orientation.

Using its ultra-low power radio, Tristan communicates movement, location, identity, sensor values to readers (aka ‘access points’) installed on the facility’s local area network (LAN). The identity can be expressed as the tag’s unique identifier, an electronic product code (EPC), the user’s name or other customer defined ID.

With SensMaster’s advanced anti-collision RFIDS™ technology, each reader can handle 1000s of tags simultaneously without losing any tags. This gives robustness and scalability of the overall system.

Tristan sensor tag provides its own alert logic whose state is shown by a device status flag (DSF). Via the DSF, the tag’s behaviour can be controlled from sensor input according to a policy set by the user.

For instance, if removal of the tag from the arm or leg is undesired, the proximity sensor can trigger the tag’s DSF to Alert-state, by which the tag will send an Alert message in a fast sequence at full radio output power regardless of other settings. The Alert state can only be reset to Idle or Guard state via an access code protected command from an authorised reader.

Other policies can be set in the application, for instance determining that a person must be in a certain zone during a predefined time period and alert when the person is leaving the zone; or that at least one person authorised to manage a control room must always be present in that room. In the case of emergency situation, the application can quickly present an inventory of all personnel within a facility and their locations.

Tristan tags can co-exist with other asset protection, personnel and environmental monitoring sensor tags such as the Samui, Boyard, Edam and Ison in an RFIDS™ network.

The tag has several customisation options, including additional sensors, e.g. temperature sensor, a Near Field Communication, NFC, interface or ISO 18000-63, EPC Gen2, interface. User interface options include displays, light indicators and push-buttons. Tristan is available in multiple colours.

“The Tristan could be seen as our smaller sibling to the very advanced Helena security tag. It is a lighter, all-silicon, comfortable and waterproof, yet feature-rich variant. It’s a direct response to recent customer requests. With its NFC option we also foresee usage in broader service applications. Initial samples are already shipping to our partners. We expect volume orders to ship out during Q1-2014”, says Martin Harnevie, CEO of SensMaster.
