AUGUSTA, Ga. - Nov. 17, 2013 - PRLog -- Consigning at the Fort Gordon Thrift Shop is now even more lucrative with its new Refer-a-Friend program. Recently launched, the rewards program encourages Thrift Shop volunteers, consignors and employees to share their love for the shop and bring in new consignors in exchange for extra cash and coupons.

“Friends trust each other to give good advice about places to shop and consign their extra stuff,” said Stephanie Lainez, manager of the Fort Gordon Thrift Shop. “With the Refer-a-Friend, we have a chance to reward our volunteers, employees and consignors for spreading the good word about shopping and consigning at the Thrift Shop. After all, where else can consignors make up to 70 percent on a sale?”

As part of the Refer-a-Friend program, current consignors can refer a new consignor and receive a $5 coupon for Thrift Shop merchandise. New consignors will also receive a $5 coupon for Thrift Shop merchandise. To qualify, the referred person must open a new account and consign items the same day. The referring consignor will receive a $5 coupon at time of the opening of the new account while the referred person will receive a $5 coupon with their consignor check if applicable.

The Refer-a-Friend program for current Thrift Shop employees and volunteers differs in that it includes a special bonus contest. Employees and volunteers can refer a new consignor and get $5 plus a chance to win a $25 bonus for the most referrals per quarter. New consignors get a $5 coupon for Thrift Shop merchandise.

To qualify, the referred person must open a new account and consign items the same day. The referring consignor will receive a $5 coupon at time of the opening of a new account. The referred person will receive monetary compensation at the end of the month. Referrals must be greater than three per quarter to qualify. A drawing will decide winner of bonus in case of a tie. The Fort Gordon Thrift Shop is not responsible for lost coupons and will not reissue them.

“A little extra cash makes a difference in a tough economy,” said Lainez. “Now our consignors, volunteers and employees can easily make extra money with the Refer-a-Friend program by doing something they probably already do, talking about the Fort Gordon Thrift Shop.”

The Fort Gordon Thrift Shop has three buildings filled with furniture, clothing, toys, crafts and Fort Gordon-themed items, all offered for sale tax-free. Operated by the Fort Gordon Spouses’ & Civilians’ Club, the shop is open every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the First Saturday of each month (October through May) from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Donations are accepted during business hours as well as at the donation shed located next to the shop. DOD card holders may consign items every Tuesday and Thursday from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and First Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

Profits from the Thrift Shop go toward annual scholarships and grants for community organizations and students. In 2013, the Thrift Shop’s success helped the club award more than $20,000 in scholarships and grants.

The Thrift Shop is located in Building 39102 behind the Exchange in the Brems Barracks near Avenue of the States and 40th Street.

The Fort Gordon Spouses’ & Civilians’ Club is an active part of the Fort Gordon community that leads service projects, operates the Thrift Shop and provides volunteer opportunities, special events and activities. A private nonprofit organization, the club is not affiliated with Fort Gordon or the U.S. Army. Membership in the club is open to anyone affiliated with Fort Gordon.
