Follow on Google News | “Cars, Kids, Cats and Dogs” Project Shifts Into GearBy: Crown Car Care and Crown Collision Mark and Todd are both members of the automotive advisory board and volunteer with the automotive collision repair training program at Martin County High School (MCHS). Teacher Ryan Kinne told them a VW Beetle had been donated by Cory Carter, a retired MCHS Guidance counselor, who understands the value and importance of vocational education. With his creative imagination in high gear, Mark visualized morphing the aging car into a Animal Ambulance and Education Vehicle complete with a special effects paw print paint job, a horn that will bark and meow and dog bone illuminations when the doors open. To maximize the usefulness of the two-door car, the back seat will be replaced by a pull out table and chairs and contain a microphone and PA System. Frank Valente, President and CEO of the HSTC, delights in the idea of a roving ambassador for their organization that can be used for a variety of educational purposes and community awareness. Reid MacLeod, a State Farm Auto Claims agent who serves on the MCHS vocational program advisory board, is enthused about the long term benefit this type of project offers. “This project is a great example of the importance of vocational training and will offer the students an opportunity to see how their efforts can help others,” he noted. The group’s focus is to raise $10,000 or more to purchase tools and equipment that will be used for the project and augment the classroom materials now on hand. “We need to make sure the students have access to current technology and tools so they are ready to work,” MacLeod said. Over the last three years, more than 150 students have graduated from the program and secured employment in automobile-related industries. Ryan Figman of Apex Pavers has already stepped forward as a financial contributor. “I support the Humane Society and anything that can help them and high school students is a great idea. I can’t wait to see how the car turns out,” Ryan said. To find out how you can donate to this project, please contact Mark Smith with Crown Collision at 772-287-4244. End
