Alan Crowetz interviewed on deadly risks posed by new computer virus

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - Nov. 14, 2013 - PRLog -- Jenn Steadman consumer specialist for Ch5 news presented a piece on the effects of the new Cryptolocker virus currently hitting the Palm Beach area. She interviewed IT specialist Alan Crowetz of InfoStream on the dangers posed by this very nasty virus which is proving fatal to business who have no back-ups on their computer systems.

Mr Crowetz explained how CryptoLocker is spread through phony emails designed to look like they’re from legitimate businesses and fake FedEx and UPS tracking notifications. Once opened, CryptoLocker installs itself in the “Documents and Settings” folder, scans the hard drive and encrypts your files. Then CryptoLocker launches a pop-up window with the 100-hour countdown and provides details on how to pay the ransom. He went on to say that Email attacks are fairly easy to avoid: take extreme care with attachments you weren’t expecting (even if from people you know), or from people you don’t know well.

"You can't be too paranoid. You need backups on your backups, and redundancy, you can't have enough of it, and many people don't," warns InfoStream's Alan Crowetz.
