The Three Key Ingredients for a Successful Video Conference

Video Conferencing Decision Maker Series - 5. The technology for Video Conferencing has improved year after year. This has helped the growth and especially the quality of performance of any Video Conference.

BASINGSTOKE, U.K. - Nov. 26, 2013 - PRLog -- AuDeo Systems Ltd (http://www.audeo.co.uk (http://www.partnerwebsite.com/)), Visual Communications Specialists today released the fifth in a series of opinion pieces written by AuDeo’s Managing Director, Kevin Wilson incorporating key observations, thoughts and views on Video Conferencing and the decision making process which organisations tend to follow.

The technology for VC has improved year after year following Moore’s law (Intel founder) that says microprocessor capacity will double every 18 months. This has helped the growth and especially the quality of performance of any Video Conference. All that said; it is not just microprocessors that make VC work well…..

There are three main vectors for a good quality Video Conference experience:

Hardware – Of course the power provided by today’s microprocessors and DSPs has enabled designers of Video Conferencing to continually improve their products whilst also adding new and innovative features. High Definition, multi point, wideband audio, low bandwidth calls and more can only be achieved by powerful computing components.

Software – The clever design of sophisticated software will speed up the decisions needed and the logic required to perform the Video Conference functions. User interfaces and shortcuts make it easier to use and work and the most recent intuitive designs are increasing the confidence of users and therefore usage.

Bandwidth – Not to be underestimated, the availability of good quality high bandwidth puts less pressure on both the software and hardware engines in the Video Conference appliance. The more the better, but make it appropriate to the task. Do not be “misled” by the 20Meg ADSL claims for £10 per month – you get what you pay for……

So when choosing a Video Conferencing appliance or solution, the simple task is to choose a modern design, a powerful processor and most of all install it onto a high quality bandwidth network to make it perform. After all, if you buy a fast car, you would want to put it on a road appropriately fixed with as little restriction as possible to test out its capabilities. A racing track is dedicated to the task (LEASED LINE MPLS), whereas a motorway appears a quick route, but can easily be clogged up and be very slow (M25 for example) especially at popular times of the day. If you can, pay a little extra to keep your bandwidth speed high and traffic down (CONTENTION) just like paying for the M6 TOLL.
