GMO Free PA Introduces Delaware County Chapter

MEDIA, Pa. - Nov. 8, 2013 - PRLog -- GMO Free PA is holding the inaugural monthly meeting of their Delaware County Chapter, at the Media-Upper Providence Free Library, on November 14, 2013, 6:30PM to 8:30PM. Wendy Zangari, Chapter Leader, will facilitate the meeting, review the history of Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs), provide details of genetically engineered crops, discuss the ongoing safety debate and detail why this organization believes in mandatory GMO labeling.

GMO Free PA is a grassroots group whose mission is to publicize the newest research and information regarding the risks of genetically modified foods, assist and educate consumers in selecting vendors and products that are GMO free, and advocate for legislation requiring mandatory GMO labeling. Co-founded by Karen Stark, Annmarie Cantrell and Zofia Hausman as a 501(c)(4), in April 2013, GMO Free PA is recognized as a non-profit and is an original members of a national coalition of states, formed during the 2012 Proposition 37 ballot initiative in California. The coalition works together, sharing information that supports and encourages the labeling effort.

Co-Founder Karen Stark stated, "We are a state-wide organization with the intention of having a GMO FREE PA Chapter in every county in the state, so that we may effectively extend our reach, build our momentum and get a labeling law passed. We also work very closely with like minded organizations who have the same mission. This is a “we” movement and we need everyone." The GMO Free PA campaign has been endorsed by Food Democracy Now, The Organic Consumers Association and The Institute for Responsible Technology.

GMO Free PA is advocating legislation calling for Mandatory Labeling of GMO Foods. On March 12, 2013, SB653 was introduced by PA Senator Daylin Leach. On October 17, 2013, HB1770 was introduced by PA Representative Peter J. Daley. Both bills currently sit in their respective Agricultural and Rural Affairs Committees.

In addition to the lecture on GMOs, the new chapter will also be showing the abridged version of the award-winning film by Jeffery Smith entitled, "Genetic Roulette - The Gamble of Our Lives". Wendy Zangari relates, "I am very passionate and became involved in the GMO Labeling movement after doing research on my own health, due to the medical industry not knowing how to cure me. What I realized was that my ailments started to lessen in severity when I removed GMO foods from my diet. After just 24 months, my ailments disappeared completely; I'll be discussing this further during our meeting and I am very excited to share this information. We Need to Know!"

Please join GMO Free PA for their monthly meetings, open to all Delaware County residents, held at the Media-Upper Providence Free Library, 1 E. Front Street, Media, PA, 19063, on the second Thursday of each month, 6:30PM to 8:30PM, beginning November 14, 2013. Meetings will include topical lectures and occasionally, guest speakers will attend and films will be viewed. Free Admission.
