"K2: Siren of the Himalayas" set for screening at Lincoln Center

NEW YORK - Nov. 7, 2013 - PRLog -- Mountainfilm on Tour and the Film Society of Lincoln Center are set to bring the East Coast premiere of the new mountaineering documentary "K2: Siren of the Himalayas" to New York City. The screening starts at 6:30 P.M. on Saturday, Nov. 16 at the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center (144 W. 65th Street).

"K2: Siren of the Himalayas" is in the middle of a worldwide festival run including dates in New Zealand, Austria, Spain, Denmark, Macedonia, Bulgaria, Nepal, Slovakia, Poland, the Netherlands and the United States. The film made its World Premiere as a competition finalist at the 2012 Banff Mountain Film Festival in Canada, followed by its U.S. Premiere at the 2013 Mountainfilm in Telluride.

ABOUT THE FILM

Shot in Pakistan in the summer of 2009, "K2: Siren of the Himalayas" features elite alpinists Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner, Fabrizio Zangrilli, Jake Meyer and Chris Szymiec in a breathtaking high-altitude mountaineering experience. Gerlinde Kaltenbrunner is the National Geographic 2012 Explorer of the Year and the first woman to summit all 14 of the world's 8,000-meter peaks without supplemental oxygen or high altitude porters. Director Dave Ohlson follows this group's attempt to summit the world's second-highest peak on the 100-year anniversary of the Duke of Abruzzi and Vittorio Sella's landmark 1909 expedition on K2.

The film contains rare archival film footage and photos from this historic 1909 K2 expedition, providing a perspective on extreme mountaineering expeditions over the past century.
