Deputy Director of the Lotus House, Anna Frusciante, said the donated bikes will make a large impact on their recipients at the shelter. “Affordable, efficient transportation is truly life changing, and this project gives that gift to women at Lotus House. Getting to work, home, daycare, the doctor, etc. is often so challenging. With bicycles, women can access these essential resources, for improved health, independence, and the financial resources needed to move from the shelter. We are so deeply grateful for the Rotaract’s great energy and generosity toward this project,” said Frusciante. The bikes were purchased from the almost $2,000 that the Rotaract, the young professionals branch of Rotary International, raised from a fundraiser at the Fado Irish Pub of Brickell. Ten brand new bikes were purchased with help from the Magic City Bike Collective with the money collected. About the Lotus House: The Lotus House is a shelter and sanctuary for over 100 women and their children who are homeless. This resource center covers all the gender specific needs of their inhabitants with a holistic model that also empower them through the means of education and support. In the Lotus House women are permitted to live free for up to a year in a healing environment, where home is only second to the want of nurture their mind and spirit to be much more than just be job ready. About the Rotaract Club of Coral Gables: The Rotaract Club of Coral Gables, is chapter of the Rotaract organization, the young professional branch of Rotary International; About the Magic City Bike Collective: The Magic City Bicycle Collective is a nonprofit, community driven, bicycle repair education center. We teach people how to work on their bikes with personal help or group workshops. We have tools and stands that can be used if you already know how to use them, for a donation of $5 per hour.
