For months, the popular dance duo of Disclosure have headed the betting market for the 2013 Mercury Music Prize, but today soul diva Laura Mvula has moved ahead of the pack with her album ‘Sing To The Moon’.

Oct. 29, 2013 - PRLog -- Simon Hopper, editor of easyodds.com said: “All of our partners have seen money for Mvula, and that has corresponded in the betting market, where she is now the clear favourite to get the gong.”

With best odds now of 11/4 it is clear that bookmakers have taken wind of where the money is going, and they have shortened the odds on Laura Mvula winning significantly. Behind her sit Disclosure (3/1) for their record ‘Settle’ and pop icon David Bowie (11/2) for ‘The Next Day’ – his first studio album for ten years.

The Mercury Music Prize – which is awarded to the best album of the year from the United Kingdom and Ireland - has often surprised, with its panel sometimes choosing lesser fancied albums over more established acts. Take 2009 for example, where Speech Debelle won the award and the cash prize ahead of the likes of Florence & The Machine, Kasabian and La Roux. So whilst Laura Mvula is the current favourite for the award, it certainly doesn’t mean she will definitely take home the prize.

That fact should comfort this year’s less fancied acts. Foals (8/1), Laura Marling (9/1), Arctic Monkeys (12/1), James Blake (18/1) and Villagers (40/1) have all been previously nominated – Arctic Monkeys even won back in 2006 for their debut album “Whatever People Say I Am, That Is What I’m Not.” This could either be a help or a hindrance to these acts, in particular for Laura Marling who at just 23 has now been nominated three times. Could it be third time lucky for the Hampshire-born star?

Elsewhere in the betting market are experimentalist Jon Hopkins (11/1), female noise merchants Savages (14/1), the 19 year old chart-topping troubadour Jake Bugg (33/1) and dance act Rudimental (33/1). Whichever of the 12 acts nominated you fancy to win, odds comparison website easyodds.com has the best possible odds.

Don’t forget to tune in on Wednesday 30th October on More 4 at 9.30pm for live coverage of the awards show from the Camden Roundhouse to see if your favourite act is awarded the prize.

Bookmakers’ odds change all the time, so don’t miss out on the extensive Mercury Music Prize centre at easyodds.com - where the best odds are available 24/7.
