By: HEY WTF Records HEY WTF Records launched early in September 2012, and after winning the "Audience Favorite" award as part of Northeastern's Entrepreneur's Club Husky Startup Challenge in December, began manufacturing cassette tape releases. "The cassette tape is hip-hop tradition," said Lucht, explaining the label's choice for releasing on the format. "Before the internet 'revolutionized' the music industry, the cassette tape was the first thing to democratize it. Anybody could record and hand out a mixtape or freely share music with friends." Although their artist roster and fanbase spans 29 countries, they stay active in the Boston community, playing live shows and selling cassettes at record stores like Weirdo Records in Cambridge or Deep Thoughts in Jamaica Plain. To celebrate the first-ever International Cassette Store Day on September 7th, 2013, they hid close to 80 cassette tapes in a scavenger hunt that spanned all over Boston and Cambridge. On Northeastern's campus, HEY WTF Records is an IDEA Venture, radio broadcaster on WRBB, and an active member of Entrepreneur's Club and the Music Industry program.
