Popular PDF Command Line Tools released free for non-commercial use

Oct. 4, 2013 - PRLog -- CAMBRIDGE, UK, 4th October 2013, Coherent Graphics Ltd, developers of the popular 'CPDF' tools for editing PDFs, have released their most powerful tools free for non-commercial use, under a community license. Binaries and source are available for all major platforms.

These tools have been commercially available since 2007, are are widely used in industry and government for automation and document processing for archiving and regulatory purposes.

We believe that these powerful facilities should also be available to individuals who can't afford a business license due to their non-commercial nature, and so we're making them freely available in binary and source formats.

The CPDF tools allow one to manipulate existing PDF files in a variety of ways. For example:

o Merge PDF files together, or split them apart

o Encrypt and decrypt

o Scale, crop and rotate pages

o Read and set document info and metadata

o Copy, add or remove bookmarks

o Stamp logos, text, dates, page numbers

o Add or remove attachments

They have been used to add numbering to legal documents, to add information to ballot papers, to merge together regulatory documents and to prepare documents for printing, by thousands of companies big and small over the last six years.

The tools can be used manually from the command line, or automated with any scripting or programming language.

This software is based on the open source CamlPDF library, one of the few implemenations of PDF from the bit level up.

Commercial use of the tools still requires a license.
