Follow on Google News | Tonkotsu empire expands into HackneyEstablished Soho ramen eatery Tonkotsu is opening their second site in Hackney this October. The new space is a bigger and bolder remix of the Tonkotsu essential elements.
By: Blenheim Design Once engine stained courtyard has been transformed into a welcoming decked terrace with the traditional Japanese umbrellas used as pendant lighting. A railway arch housing mechanics worshop has been transformed by Blenheim Design into a Ramen restaurant with an open kitchen dominating the space. The whole process of creating food will be transparent: The design blends graphics and reclaimed elements; old obi belts, salvaged ship lights, discarded doors; to create a fresh, relaxed environment that represents what Tonkotsu is all about: comfort and fun. “The bigest chalenge was to make every single brick acessible for any future inspections. Fixing any structure to the existing wall was out of the question and we had to think outside of the box” explains Maja Myall – Blenheim Design director. Food on offer will iclude Ramen, Gyoza and Katsu. Tonkotsu owners: Ken Yamada and Emma Reynolds are already looking for new site. Formed by Maja Myall, Blenheim Design ltd is an interior design company specialising in restaurant design.
