The points have increased from two to five.”

The article states that the number of accidents directly caused by texting while driving, has tripled over the last seven years at an alarming rate at a 143% increase. The article mentions that at teenagers are the biggest offenders of this law, with 43% of teenagers admitting they have texted while driving.

According to Governor Cuomo, "I am hopeful that every driver who got a ticket for looking at their phone instead of the road gets the message that this reckless behavior won’t be tolerated. Getting a ticket teaches young drivers this lesson the easy way – no parent should have to experience the hard way."
