By: Soulcake VIDEO: Stan Lee accepts the 2013 'Lifetime Achievement Award' http://www.youtube.com/ On Sunday, August 18th, 2013, in the heart of Hollywood, California, Stan Lee accepted the 2013 “Lifetime Achievement” Dane Storrusten, Soulcake Co-Founder and Principal Designer explains, “Soulcake was very excited to get the opportunity to design the 1st ever Geekie Award. We knew it had to be special, iconic, and indicative of a brand new type of award show that makes these awesome creators feel like the rockstars they are. When we heard it would be held by the likes of Stan Lee, Seth Green, and members of NASA / JPL, we definitely had an "oh sh@#!" moment. Soulcake is not just an industrial product company, we are an experience company. We brainstormed a variety of cool ‘geek’ related statue ideas that would empower these creators and elevate the euphoric experience of being a winner. We really wanted something interactive and relevant. We landed on a retro sci-fi (gamma) ray gun for a variety of reasons. Mainly because it was an interactive object that would work well on camera and become an engaging prop on the red carpet and on stage. But also it sparked some nostalgia of being a kid full of wonder and amazement (i.e. the inclined stance).” The statue idea was conceived mere months prior to the show when Nedopak Productions approached Soulcake to request a “vintage sci-fi concept” and “something people will have fun with.” After weeks of sketching and brainstorming, Soulcake came up with the idea of a sci-fi ray gun that could be removed from it’s stand and transformed into a toy. “The magnetized, detachable base was my partner David Morelock’s idea,” states Storrusten. “He’s obsessed with magnets! (We’re in the process of getting him help.) We wanted the award statue to be dual purpose, so it works as a monument that glistens on the shelf and it accommodates the perfect pistol grip pose.” The Geekie Award isn’t the first world-renown product created by Soulcake. In 2012, Soulcake partnered with Cobra Puma to craft an award-winning line of golf clubs, including the 2012 AMP Driver and Cobra AMP Iron. Both brought home the Gold Award and topped GD’s annual hot list for exceptional gear. In 2011, the S3 Iron, designed and developed by Soulcake, won Golf Digest’s Gold Award. The company also produces their own product lines for various other industries. Soulcake would like to acknowledge and thank 2013 Geekie Awards sponsor 3D Systems for molding the statues. ------------------------------------------------------------ About Soulcake: We’re a soulful design company focused on products, brands and experiences.
