Compton, will be speaking at Benchmark Books on Thursday, September 5, at 6 pm to speak about the book and sign copies. This year, the University of Utah Press awarded Compton the $10,000 Juanita Brooks Prize in Mormon Studies. Compton's other works include Fire and Sword: A History of the Latter-day Saints in Northern Missouri, 1836-39, In Sacred Loneliness: The Plural Wives of Joseph Smith, and A Widow's Tale: The 1884-1896 Diary of Helen Mar Kimball Whitney (co-edited with Charles Hatch). “A magnificent new biography which will immediately become not only the standard biography of Jacob Hamblin, but also one of the greatest biographies in the fields of Mormon and Utah history. In Sacred Loneliness: The Plural Wives of Joseph Smith, was awarded the Best Book Award from both the John Whitmer Historical Association and the Mormon History Association.
