Aug. 22, 2013 - PRLog -- Chicago’s tradition of Labor Day festivals (http://www.conciergepreferred.com/chicago-festivals/4939-labor-day-2012-jazz-fest-north-coast-music-fest-more.html) is arguably represented best by its more than three decades old tradition, the Jazz Festival. The four day long event is taking place from Thursday, August 29 to Sunday, September 1 at venues throughout downtown Chicago. The festival will welcome world-famous Jazz performers and will be completely free to attend.

The festivities begin on August 29 at 2 p.m. with performances in the afternoon and early evening at venues including the Chicago Cultural Center’s auditoriums, Roosevelt University’s Ganz Hall, and the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park (http://www.conciergepreferred.com/attractions/122-chicago-points-of-interest-millennium-park-guide.html).

Following that, on Friday, August 30, the festival will continue in Millennium Park and last until Sunday. The Jay Pritzker Pavilion will host the biggest evening shows, while the Freeman Pavilion, and Heritage Pavilion will host sets during the afternoons.  Attendees will be able to find nearly constant music from artists such as Charles Lloyd, Jason Moran, and Donald Harrison. The wide variety of Jazz styles will be represented including modern experimental and hip-hop influenced forms, as well as more traditional big band and Latin styles.

A full listing of the 2013 Chicago Jazz Festival schedule (http://chicagojazzfestival.com/index.php/schedule) can be found online. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday music starts in the early afternoon and continues through the late evening with the final performers kicking off their sets around 10 p.m.

Although it is the main point of the event, the great jazz isn’t the only draw. The Chicago Jazz Festival will also be representing the visual mediums at an art fair taking place at Wrigley Square in the northwest corner of the park. Artists working in all media will be there selling their work, including internationally renowned painter and Chicago native, Charlie Black.
