Book on happiness "a revelation"

The issue of happiness is of considerable importance in today’s society – and one to which many great minds are devoting their attention. Depression is on the increase in the United States and the UK, and behaviour therapy and mood controlling drugs are widely prescribed.

 

In his book, How To Be Happy, happiness guru and cult designer Luke Andreski offers a very different solution. Luke Andreski says, “This is not a therapy or a replacement to other therapies or treatments – in fact, it is not specifically for unhappy people at all. This book is about making everyone happier even if they are reasonably happy already.”

 

Luke Andreski’s book asks in its first pages, ‘Strong but want to be stronger? Happy but want to be happier? Successful but want to excel?’  and then offers the reader a selection of prayers, rituals and hymns designed to celebrate happiness and to make people happier. “We call this the democratization of the instinct to rejoice,” Andreski says. “These are hymns, rituals and prayers open to everyone and anyone – from the strongly religious to the atheist, from the highly politicized to the apolitical – anyone can enjoy and benefit from the happiness toolkit in my book.”

 

The book has been well received in academic circles, with distinguished philosopher William Tarkovsky describing the book as “a revelation”. “If there’s one book you should read this summer,” he says, “it is Luke Andreski’s How To Be Happy.”
