Aug. 7, 2013 - PRLog -- As any of the experts at Motor Werks BMW (http://www.motorwerksbmwbarrington.com/dealership/about.htm) in Barrington, IL can attest, BMW vehicles are some of the most technologically advanced models on the market. BMW was recently recognized for the technology in its vehicles at the 2013 Telematics Update Awards, where the automaker’s Connected Drive system earned the “Best Safety and Security Solution” award.

This honor comes on the heels of the announcement that BMW Assist eCall with enhanced Automatic Collision Notification and TeleService will come standard on nearly all 2014 BMW models, and will include ten years of service.

The Automatic Collision Notification takes advantage of the innovative Urgency Algorithm, which is the result of a partnership between BMW and the William Lehman Injury Research Center in Miami. The algorithm can pinpoint the vehicle’s location and the direction it was travelling, in addition to relaying information about the model and data gathered from the vehicle’s sensors to the call center. This data provides information about the severity of a collision and the likelihood of injury. The call center then uses this information to determine the appropriate emergency response, as well as relaying relevant information to first responders before they arrive at the scene.

TeleService notifies the driver of the vehicle if and when maintenance is necessary. It makes fixed service intervals unnecessary, since the vehicle’s Condition Based Service system is constantly monitoring your vehicle’s needs. It is unsurprising that this heralded technology contributes to both safety and convenience — two of the hallmarks of BMW vehicles.

Vehicles equipped with BMW Assist have been available the United States since 1997, demonstrating the automaker’s commitment to safety.

Doug Claus, Department Manager – Product Requirements and Development for BMW of North America, explained the automaker’s rationale for the decision, saying, “We felt strongly that making both BMW Assist and TeleService standard for the 2014 model year was important for our customers in terms of safety and security.”

The team at Motor Werks BMW will be happy to go over the features of the BMW ConnectedDrive system with interested drivers in the Chicago area. Their dealership is located at 1475 S. Barrington Rd. in Barrington, IL (http://www.motorwerksbmwbarrington.com/dealership/directi...), and features the full lineup of new BMW vehicles.
