Chevy Celebrates 100 Years of the Iconic Bowtie

Brand's Trademark Badge Has Adorned More than 215 Million Models

WAKEFIELD, Mass. - Aug. 7, 2013 - PRLog -- There are few automotive symbols as recognized and beloved as the Chevrolet bowtie, and last month the iconic badge celebrated its 100th anniversary. Introduced in 1913 on the Chevrolet H-2 Royal Mail and H-4 Baby Grand, the bowtie has gone on to grace more than 215 million models over the course of the last century.

One of the newest models to sport the bowtie, the redesigned 2014 Chevy Impala, has given the automaker even more reason to celebrate. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) recently bestowed the Impala with a five-star rating in its New Car Assessment Program, the highest possible score. Rating new vehicles on a battery of tests including frontal, side and rollover crashes, the NHTSA instituted more rigorous testing starting with 2011-model-year vehicles, making it more difficult for a car to earn the top safety rating.

"Families who are carrying precious cargo will have peace of mind when they're out on the road in the new Chevy Impala, thanks to its stellar safety ratings," said Marty Capici, general manager of Liberty Chevrolet, a Chevy dealer in Massachusetts. "Not only are its crash-test scores impressive, but its active-safety equipment is above and beyond the competition, helping drivers prevent crashes from even happening."

Active-safety features available on the 2014 Impala are designed to alert drivers to potential collisions and even automatically brake to lessen the impact. Crash imminent braking uses radar technology to alert the driver to an imminent threat, and if no response is taken, the Impala will immediately apply the brakes. Meanwhile, rear-cross traffic alert, forward collision alert, lane-departure warning and side blind-zone alert use radar and cameras to ensure drivers stay on course, emitting visual and audio signals to warn them about potential hazards.
