American Pest Management To Rid Historic Waters Hall (KSU) Of Termite Infestation

MANHATTAN, Kan. - July 31, 2013 - PRLog -- Manhattan, KS – July 31, 2013 – After years of termite infestation in Kansas State’s well-known Waters Hall, KSU has decided to fight back.

Jim Vesta of KSU Facilities Maintenance and Repairs says, “The extent of the infestation is presently unknown, but there is clearly a need for an effective intervention.”

Over the past two years swarming of termites in and around Waters Hall have been observed, although Mr. Vesta says, “Termites have been present in Waters Hall for many decades.”

American Pest Management, based in Manhattan, Kansas, is leading the charge by donating their knowledge, time, and services to save the historic building from the ravages of termites.  The donated program consists of installing the Sentricon Termite Colony Elimination System bait stations and providing ongoing inspections, maintenance, and protection over a two year period.  The program being implemented typically is estimated to cost over fifteen thousand dollars over the two year period for a building of this size.  Dow AgroSciences, is donating the use of the bait stations and other materials for the program.

The top of the line system being used, the Sentricon System, is an environmentally beneficial option for eliminating termites in Waters Hall. The Sentricon System uses the natural biology of the termites and their naturally foraging habits to transfer bait and eliminate the termite colonies around the historic building.  The treatment does not involve the use of soil poisoning or harsh pesticides, making it an environmentally friendly, non-intrusive method of termite protection.  The protection plan is designed to not hamper research and student activity in or around Waters Hall.
