Preservation Durham Selects Blueplate PR As Agency of Record

Boutique firm to provide public relations services for Durham, NC's architectural preservation organization.

RALEIGH, N.C. - July 23, 2013 - PRLog -- (Durham, NC) -- Kim Weiss, owner of Blueplate PR, a boutique public relations agency located in downtown Raleigh, announced recently that Preservation Durham has selected her firm as its public relations agency of record.

Blueplate PR will assist Preservation Durham in increasing local, regional, and national awareness of its work and accomplishments through a public relations campaign that includes media exposure, Internet presence, social media, and community relations.

Preservation Durham is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to preserving Durham’s architectural heritage. The organization was founded in 1974, originally as the Historic Preservation Society of Durham.

Preservation Durham has worked to establish historic districts in Durham that provide tax credits for homeowners of historic houses. Preservation Durham ’s Endangered Properties Fund helps buyers and sellers of historic properties protect them with preservation covenants. Its Renovators Network provides information and expertise to homeowners and other renovators.

“I’m thrilled to partner with Preservation Durham,” Weiss said. “For many years, Preservation Durham has gone quietly about its business, successfully protecting and preserving the city’s architectural heritage in so many ways. I intend to make sure the organization’s excellent work is very well-known, both regionally and among national preservationists, all of whom can learn a lot from the work of this fearless staff.”

Historic preservation is actually one of Weiss’ specialties. As a history major at East Carolina University, she studied architectural history extensively. As a writer and editor at the former Spectator magazine, she received Preservation North Carolina’s Gertrude S. Carraway Award for her consistent reporting on preservation efforts throughout the Triangle. And since 2004, she has served as both publicist for, and a volunteer with, NC Modernist Houses (formerly Triangle Modernist Houses), a non-profit preservation organization that focuses on mid-century and new modernist residential design.

Weiss will work closely with Preservation Durham’s executive director, Wendy Hillis, and preservation coordinator Elizabeth Marsh.
