Follow on Google News | The Barber Shop Marketing Wins 2013 Telly Award for DCCCD Ad CampaignThe Barber Shop Marketing (TBS) has won a 2013 Telly Award in the 34th Annual Telly Awards competition for the Dallas County Community College District’s (DCCCD) 2012 “Smart Starts Here” campaign.
By: The Barber Shop Richard Schiera, creative director at TBS, said the Telly Award is “the perfect end to the perfect job” – for an ad that portrays talking to one’s self in a new and memorable way. “We went from brainstorming ideas to an ad with a talking brain,” he continued. “Most people considering college are young, scared and conflicted. They want to be successful in life, but…are they good enough for college? Do they have what it takes? Are they ready to leave home? What about the cost? How will they pay for college? We show that inner conflict as the brain talks. “Since community colleges are a logical and affordable option for getting a start in college, the DCCCD ad illustrated: Kathy Cook, Dallas County Community College District's (DCCCD) director of advertising, stated, “Creative minds at The Barber Shop Marketing provided the brain power for DCCCD’s award-winning ad campaign. The ‘Smart Starts Here’ brain campaign resulted in standout, creative ads that deliver DCCCD's message in a fresh and compelling way, reaching our audience effectively via broadcast, outdoor and online media.” DCCCD’s The ‘Smart Starts Here’ brain award-winning ad campaign: Dream: http://www.youtube.com/ Immature (Spanish): http://www.youtube.com/ Big Picture: http://www.youtube.com/ Different: http://www.youtube.com/ Need To Go: http://www.youtube.com/ Not Good Enough: http://www.youtube.com/ “Dallas County Community College District is a dream client with great input and this campaign was so much fun for our team. We wish we had a dozen clients like DCCCD!” said Liz Barber, TBS president. The ad campaign ran for five weeks during summer 2012 on television, radio, the Internet and digital billboards around Dallas County. Additionally, a QR code on printed items enabled people to take a quiz to determine if they were left- or right-brained. TBS’ concept illustrates the conversations we have with ourselves in our heads – between left brain and right brain. Animation was simple and colorful, with hand-drawn images. The ads reinforced the quality of the curriculum offered by DCCCD and the affordability – a university-quality experience for a quarter of the cost.
