CLYDEBANK, Scotland - June 21, 2013 - PRLog -- Gryffe High School’s Eco Cluster event involved pupils from associated primary schools in the area as well as pupils from Gryffe High School. The day involved a number of active sessions and plans, including the display of an electric car, a community clear up, biological sampling in the school grounds and the making, decorating (and seeding) of environmentally friendly plant pots, amongst other activities.

On the day, Jason Lowey, Solar Project Manager at Campbell & Kennedy provided a session on solar panel installations to explain how they work, the importance of renewable energy for the UK, as well as highlighted career opportunities in the renewable energy market. Campbell & Kennedy was recently appointed to install solar PV to four high schools across Renfrewshire, and so on the day also explained how the systems will work and the benefits.

The Eco Schools programme derives from the UN Conference on Environment & Development (Rio Earth Summit) in 1992 which highlighted the need to involve young people in finding solutions to environmental and sustainable development challenges at a local level.

As a result, the Eco Schools programme was developed in 1994 by the Foundation for Environmental Education(FEE) and introduced into the UK, including Scotland, in 1995.

There are now 41 countries throughout Europe and Africa involved in Eco Schools. In addition, participation in the Eco Schools programme is also a performance measure for one of the Scottish Government Education Department’s national priorities in education: National Priority 4 - Values & Citizenship.

Jason Lowey, Project Manager at Campbell & Kennedy said, “We were delighted to be part of this event. Care for the environment is one of our key responsibilities and an important part of the way in which we do business. As well as being educational, we hope our session were fun for the pupils too.”

Campbell & Kennedy’s Solar PV division is working with numerous Local Authorities and Housing Associations throughout the UK. In addition, the company has expanded and now provides electrical contracting and fire protection equipment installations as well as their traditional aerial and satellite TV installation services.
