The major attractions to the area are the white sandy beaches, the amazing crystalline waters, the laid back Caribbean attitude, and the warm tropical weather.

How is the weather in the Riviera Maya?

The weather in the Riviera Maya is semi-tropical, with an average yearly temperature of 80° degrees Fahrenheit (26 ° Celsius), which can rise to 100° degrees Fahrenheit (37.7° Celsius) in the hot summer months. June 1st is the official start to the hurricane season and ends on November 30th.  The weather in Riviera Maya starting in November up to April, which is considered high season here; it is hot and sunny during the day and cool and breezy at night.

The Riviera Maya has two main climatic seasons: a rainy season (May to mid-Oct), and a dry season (mid-Oct through Apr). The coastal region typically receives regular tropical showers, which begin around 4 or 5 p.m. and last a few hours, as well as an occasional tropical storm that passes up the coast. Although the daily rains can come on suddenly and be quite strong, they usually end just as quickly as they began, and they cool the air for the evening. During peak hurricane season (Sept–Oct), take a look at the weather reports just before traveling to see whether you may run into any particularly foul weather.

The weather or meteo in June, July, and August are very hot and humid on the Riviera Maya, with temperatures rising into the mid-80s and 90s. Most of the coastal part of this region experiences temperatures in the 80s in the hottest months. During winter months, temperatures average 70 to 75 during the days and about 55 to 65 in the evenings.

Travel seasons in Riviera Maya

The Riviera Maya — has two principal travel seasons: high and low. The high season  begins around December 20 and continues through Easter, although in some places the high season can begin as early as mid-November. The low season begins the day after Easter and continues to mid-December; during the low season, prices may drop between 20 and 50 percent.
Prices may rise dramatically during the weeks of Easter and Christmas, which are the two peak travel weeks in Mexico.

In Isla Mujeres, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen and Tulum, , the high season starts in mid-November as well, but a "second" high season occurs in August, when many European visitors arrive.

November might be the best month to travel to the Riviera Maya: The scenery is still green from the recently ended rainy season, and temperatures are just beginning to turn a bit cooler, which can produce crystal-clear skies. Crowds are also at a minimum, and you're likely to find some good deals.

Since the weatheror  in Playa del Carmen and Tulum is unperdictable specially in June, July and August we highly recommend you check  a 7, 10 or 14 day forecast in the weather channel.

When is the Hurricane season in the Riviera Maya? The hurricane season runs Mid August through late October and the sky can change from clear to overcast in minutes. The ocean water is warmest in August-September and starts to cool down in November.

From July through September the temperature is highest, as is rainfall. This is also the mosquito season.

Spring [February to May] is a beautiful time of year on the Riviera, with very little rain and flowers everywhere. The ocean gets calmer and warmer, as temperatures rise. Nights can still be a little cool but the temperature is milder and more comfortable.

All year round the humidity level is very high, often around 90 per cent. Regardless of what time of year you get here, you will have great beach days and not so great beach days but the ocean is always warm enough to swim and snorkel in.
