YORKSHIRE, U.K. - June 17, 2013 - PRLog -- Being a conscientious home owner is something that we are all encouraged to be, but in our busy lifestyles it can often be overlooked.

One housebuilder, Miller Homes, is encouraging us all to become more aware of how we can play our part in recycling during national Recycling Week (http://www.recyclenowpartners.org.uk/recycle_week.html) which takes place between 18th – 23rd June and celebrates its tenth anniversary this year.

"Being a responsible home owner should be common place now as local councils provide recycling facilities both on our doorstep and in our communities," said Steve McElroy sales manager Miller Homes Yorkshire. "However, it is important to remember that it is not just about putting your cereal packaging in the correct box as there is so much more that we can do."

Miller Homes' top tips for recycling include:

·         Ensuring you understand exactly what your kerbside recycling will take and what they won't – contact your local council for specific information.

·         Recycling your packaging waste but also your unwanted clothing, toys, shoes, etc.

·         Disposing of unwanted paint and similar products through recognised channels to limit pollution of waste sites and water systems

·         Recycling used batteries, electrical items and printer cartridges  instead of disposing of them in standard household waste

·         Encouraging children to recycle at home and at school - think of all the paper and packaging they must waste at school!

·         Recycle food waste through a garden compost heap or 'Bokashi' bin

"It is important that we all take our home recycling initiatives to the next level to ensure we keep our carbon footprint as low as possible," said Steve. "By questioning everything, how we dispose of everything that we no longer need or require, we can make a real difference to our environment."

Miller Homes currently has fourteen developments across the region ranging from one bedroom apartments priced from  £74,995 to five bedroom executive homes from £250,000.  A range of purchase initiatives are available to support first time buyers, those wishing to upgrade their property and those looking to downsize.

Further information about developments in the region can be found by visiting www.millerhomes.co.uk
