June 6, 2013 - PRLog -- PHS Waterlogic, Europe’s largest supplier of mains-fed water dispensing and purifying systems, has issued a warning concerning the purification claims being made within the water vending market.   Claims of ‘unrivalled hygienic benefits’ are often unsubstantiated says PHS and could mislead buyers.

“For a claim to be made of ‘unrivalled hygienic benefits’, the supplier must be able to independently verify their statement,” explained David Mathews, managing director of PHS Waterlogic (http://www.phswaterlogic.co.uk).  “Unsubstantiated claims may misrepresent qualities or standards relied upon by an unwitting buyer and thus be misleading.  When these claims are made in connection to the quality of drinking water it could have serious implications and we have a very dim view of those making such statements without justification.”

To demonstrate adequate evidence of purification, PHS Waterlogic points to its own guarantee of 99.9999 per cent pure water delivered 100 per cent of the time, as confirmed by over 5,000 physical tests conducted by independent laboratories.  In tests performed at the Dr Lörcher Institute in Germany, Firewall technology was proven to guarantee protection against even the most resistant species of bacteria.  This, says PHS Waterlogic, is due to the patented repositioning of the UV purification system to the point of dispense to ensure perfectly purified water, whilst preventing any possibility of back contamination from human or natural airborne bacteria.

High performance filtration is also incorporated in the Waterlogic 3, with advanced carbon filters effectively removing chlorine, sediment and volatile organic compounds from the mains-fed water.  The filtration process uses activated carbon to eliminate these contaminants and impurities by using chemical absorption.  Externally the dispenser is protected by BioCote antimicrobial technology, which inhibits the growth of micro-organisms on the cooler’s surface.  This in-built protection acts as second line defence and effectively reduces the levels of bacteria to minimise the risk of cross-contamination.

“When we claim that our products offer an unrivalled level of water purity we are able to factually prove our boast,” said David Matthews. “When considering purity, remember that filtration only improves the taste and odour, plus removes particles; it doesn’t prevent bacteria and pathogens in the water – even chlorinated water – so we address this with UV purification.”

The message to buyers from PHS Waterlogic is ‘let the buyer beware’, or at least to be conscious of the different standards of purification available in the mains-fed water dispensing market.
