Laughing at My Nightmare Blogger to Give Motivational Talk at Harrisburg University

 
May 17, 2013 - PRLog -- 20-year-old, Bethlehem, PA native, Shane Burcaw, whose humorous blog about living with muscular dystrophy has gained over 350,000 followers, will be stopping to give a talk at Harrisburg University on Wednesday, May 29 at 6 PM. This talk is the final stop on Burcaw’s East Coast speaking tour, which will be taking him from Pennsylvania to Florida and back.

The 2013 Laughing At My Nightmare LaughTour is being organized by Burcaw’s nonprofit organization, Laughing At My Nightmare, Inc., whose mission is to encourage people to remain positive in the face of adversity through the use of humor, while raising funds for muscular dystrophy research.

Tickets are available for purchase through Eventbrite at laughtour-harrisburg.eventbrite.com and can either be collected for free or for a donation of the person’s choosing. All proceeds from ticket sales go directly to Laughing At My Nightmare, Inc.

Shane is the President and Founder of Laughing At My Nightmare, Inc., a nonprofit organization working to promote positivity and raise funds for muscular dystrophy research. He was born with a neuromuscular disease called spinal muscular atrophy, which causes his muscles to deteriorate and has confined him to a wheelchair since the age of two. Burcaw recently signed a book deal with Macmillan Publishing.

In May of 2011, he began a blog called Laughing At My Nightmare to share his unique perspective of dealing with the challenges presented by having SMA. He has always found that humor and positivity are the most effective tools for dealing with hardship. As of April 2013, his blog had over 350,000 followers, making it one of the most popular blogs hosted on the Tumblr platform. It is regularly featured in the humor, young adult, and writing sections of the website.

Run by a nationwide team of volunteers, Laughing At My Nightmare, Inc. works to achieve their mission of inspiring positivity by giving motivational speeches to schools and businesses, producing inspirational videos, hosting events, and writing a blog about overcoming adversity.
