ROCKPORT, Maine - May 16, 2013 - PRLog -- ROCKPORT, Maine – In an effort to introduce independent school educators to practical methods for establishing and maintaining an ethical school culture, the Institute for Global Ethics teamed up with one of its client schools for presentations at two recent national education conferences.

IGE collaborated with Douglas Magee, a teacher at the Church Farm School (CFS), in running a breakout session for educators attending the National Association of Episcopal Schools’ (NAES) 2012 Biennial Conference in Baltimore. That collaboration continued with similar presentations for heads of schools and other educators at this year’s National Association of Independent Schools’ (NAIS) Annual Conference in Philadelphia. Co-facilitating with Magee from IGE were Don Proffit, IGE associate, and Paula Mirk, director of education.

Magee spearheads a successful IGE-based ethics initiative at CFS that began in 2011. Located in Exton, just outside of Philadelphia, CFS is an independent boarding and day school for 190 boys who come from across the U.S. and several foreign countries.

The national conference presentations were intended to impart tangible protocols in how to build an ethical culture aimed at involving both students and adults – faculty and administrators – in a collaborative effort that demonstrates in its very process respect for others. Workshop participants experienced exercises and instructional practices they could take back to their own communities and use practically within a real classroom to enhance that environment both educationally and culturally.

Slides from each of the presentations can be found on the Ethical Literacy Learning Community website by visiting: http://ethical-literacy.org/category/resource-center/ethical-literacy-school-archives/church-farm-school/.
