May 14, 2013 - PRLog -- The U.S. Mint has gone from anonymity to center stage over the last few years, as precious metals values have risen and interest in numismatic coins has grown. The national mint of the United States is now making headlines for its lack of gold and silver.

As first reported by the U.S. Mint itself, a few of the most popular gold and silver coins are now unavailable due to what the Mint calls a supply issue. Suspended coin programs include the America the Beautiful silver series, the American Eagle silver Proof series and the one-tenth (1/10) ounce gold American Eagle Uncirculated coin series. No date has been set for the return of those coins. Another popular item, the silver American Eagle Uncirculated bullion coin series, is not suspended but the U.S. Mint has been forced to ration supplies among its authorized dealers until more blank silver rounds become available.

“It’s an abomination, caused by an Obama-nation,” said Ryan Dumas, vice president of market research at Gold Coin, a popular U.S. coin dealer. “U.S. law says that these coins should be minted in sufficient supply to meet demand, yet they have completely suspended the program. How are household investors supposed to protect their assets from inflation if our own nation’s mint refuses to sell precious metals? They make money with each transaction, but the agenda is clearly to get people to avoid buying gold coins and silver coins and to instead put their money in paper, where the government can more easily take what they want,” Dumas added.
