A man with great vision and purpose sets out to change the face of traditional religion

LOS ANGELES - May 7, 2013 - PRLog -- Pasadena, CA- In the midst of the chaos plaguing our nation, B.J. King, an ex convict turned music executive turned filmmaker and preacher, sets out to change the way religion is presently being presented to the masses
 
B.J. King and his team of God fearing go getters are on a mission to spread the Gospel of Christ in the tradition of truly “Come as You Are”.  Mr. King feels as though many churches have gotten out of touch with the way that the Lord had intended HIS message to spread among HIS people and the use of haughty titles and fancy dress has tainted the ability to be effective in reaching the people who need it most.  “We have gotten so locked into the religion that we have forgotten about the relationship and have lost sight of the soul seeking.” Stated B.J. “It is truly not about the religion but the relationship”, he adds.

King was born and raised in Pasadena, California.  A former student of John Muir high school which is known for a number of notable graduates such as baseball legend Jackie Robinson, Van Halen front man David Lee Roth, Olympic Gold Medalist Inger Miller and NBA Stars Stacey Augmon and Jacque Vaughn to name a few.
After having been exposed to the fast life at a very young age he found himself placed in a position upon which he ultimately ended up spending nearly four years in a state prison.  

Many would consider him to be a great visionary but Mr. King humbly sees it a little bit differently.  He believes that he has been placed here to undertake a mission and has been gifted with certain talents and relationships needed in order to do so.  He is determined to fulfill that purpose and see that his work here is complete before he leaves this earth.  “I have so many stories living inside of me and it is time to let them out and share them with the world.   I want to help those who are in need and show people that regardless of their beginning or economic abilities, they can still have all that they desire and make a prolific contribution to society. It’s not the years in your life that matter.  It’s the life in the years.” stated B.J. in a recent interview.

Mr. King is a major staple of his community and has been preaching for a number of years but still could not understand why the people he grew up with or others who had been long time residents of the community were not being drawn into the church like he was.  

After a closer observation and talks with those individuals he soon discovered that it was all about the presentation of the glorious package.  They were not being spoken to in a language that they could understand. Soon thereafter began the conception of HoodChurch Ministries.  

HoodChurch ministries, is just that, Hood Church.  There are no fancy services, no big hats, no huge titles, and no one there pushing the lines of condemnation.  “The word of God gives condemnation on its own… that is not my job.  My job is to help remove the blinders from the eyes, the plugs from the ears and the hardness from the hearts of those that have for so long been subject to the teachings and traditions of old time religion,” States Mr. King.

King feels as though it is his duty to go back to the community and remove the residue and bitter tastes that not only his prior lifestyle, myriad of arrests and street conflicts have left on the community but also to provide the community with an effective way to receive the blessings and understandings of the gospel.

After such a huge response and demand for the style of teaching and preaching taking place at HoodChurch, the once scheduled monthly service is now taking place every Saturday at New Hope M.B.C located in Pasadena, CA.

Of course, not everyone is happy about what HoodChurch is doing in the community but B.J. says that “whenever you have those that don’t agree with what you are doing, mostly for a lack of knowledge, that’s a clear indication that you are definitely on the right path.” A path that Mr. King intends to stay on and prayerfully spread throughout the entire country.  He already has visions of HoodChurch Atlanta, HoodChurch New York and so on.
