KOLKATA, India - May 7, 2013 - PRLog -- In India the average speed of trucks are calculated to 20 kmph (approximately). It is very low in comparison with global average speed which is estimated with 60-80 kmph. A huge loss covering Rs. 60,000 crore is being occurred due to this.

Other factors like existence of the toll plazas, checking points and the poor road conditions are also playing vital roles for low speed of the trucks/heavy commercial vehicles.

Besides, low speed also occurs due to regular truck breakdowns, vehicle overloading, pitiable driving discipline and poor maintenance of the vehicles.

In India there should be arrangements for construction of more 4 lanes for smooth & speedy movements of the trucks & other commercial vehicles. But we find that only 14% of National Highways have 4 or more than 4 lanes

The truck drivers also sometimes do not follow the proper regulation of lanes. For four lane roads (with two lanes for each side), there should be arrangements for movement of all the slow vehicles in one lane and the high speed vehicles should go through the other lane. But the truck drivers always choose the route which they find easier to move their vehicles. This gives birth to the slowdown of the total highway network.

Regular breakdown of the vehicles also result in delaying the vehicle movements. Breakdown occurs due to the utilization of decade long old vehicles. It is estimated that the average age of the vehicles is about 12-15 years. Thus breakdown of vehicles result in low speed for all traffic on that route.

In order to overcome the issues, every firm should maintain proper vehicle maintenance and driver training. The firm should get rid of all kinds of overloading for their vehicles

There should be some uniform rules and regulations which will reduce road disruptions and bring about high overall speeds. The strict rule implementation will throw out the unorganized players out of business  and facilitate organized players to widespread their business. It also gives rise to enhance the speed of the vehicle and gain extra profit margin.
