John Palmer Art Kicks Off Support for WITS with Superb Art Unveiling

Internationally acclaimed Artist John Ross Palmer kicked off support for his 2013 Charity of the Year, Writers in the Schools, with an inspired art unveiling on April 13, 2013 at the John Palmer Art Gallery & Studio.

HOUSTON - April 17, 2013 - PRLog -- On Saturday, April 13, 2013, the John Palmer Art Gallery & Studio hosted an inspired art unveiling to kick off its year of support for Writers in the Schools, their 2013 Charity of the Year. At this well-attended and entertaining afternoon soiree, guests were treated to 16 new Palmer paintings and 10 original ceramic pieces--all inspired by the mission of Writers in the Schools, to engage children in the pleasure and power of reading and writing. The series of 16 paintings was subdivided into four literary themes: News, Self-Improvement, American Fiction and Travel. The books and magazines that Palmer personally selected for visual and artistic inspiration came from his personal shelves--many of them slighly damaged, creased and with oodles of dog-eared pages revealing many years of use. Palmer explained, "When I thought about creating a series of paintings inspired by the mission of WITS--I reached out to my own collection of books and periodicals that I know and love. Just as WITS makes the beauty of reading and writing poetry accessible to our city's youth, I wanted to use text and language from books that I utilize in my life." To the guests at the unveiling, this was apparent not only in the series of paintings but also in the books that were creatively placed on a desk-like assemblage created by Palmer. The travel books from Argentina, Greece, South Africa and Germany were highlighted and well-worn--evidence of his use of them on his art study-abroad adventures in past years. To date in 2013, John Palmer Art has donated over $900 in monetary donations plus additional in-kind gifts to WITS while the majority of their financial support is expected in the latter half of 2013 through a black tie gala and a WITS-specific fundraiser hosted at their Historic Heights Art Gallery.
Art Gallery Owner Ryan Lindsay was beyond thrilled. "Our support of WITS is proving to be tremendously inspirational for both John and me. His artwork inspired by their mission is mesmerizing, and, therefore my efforts to promote the charity partnership are completed with ease and fluidity."
