Intrinsic Quality Introduces IQ Programming Station

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill. - March 27, 2013 - PRLog -- Intrinsic Quality is pleased to introduce the IQ Programming Station, a universal automatic programming station for devices mounted on circuit boards. This product was developed based on the requirements of a US major automotive electronics manufacturer. They were looking to have the microcontrollers and other devices on several printed circuit boards automatically programmed with in-system programming, the loading of firmware on a device already mounted on a circuit board. They wanted it done fast and within their budget.

To facilitate implementation, Intrinsic Quality integrated several different technologies. A dual well Ingun fixture was chosen for its ergonomic actuation, robust design and form factor. A FlashRunner FR01Eng programming engine was selected to provide universal device programming at the fastest possible speed. To gather information on the board being programmed, a bar-code scanner was mounted within the fixture. The bar-code scanner scanned the board's bar-code and then relayed the board's serial number to a PC that was also connected to fixture. Custom developed software on the PC coordinated these different technologies; after the board was scanned, the PC selected the associated firmware automatically and relayed it to the FlashRunner. The FlashRunner then loaded the firmware onto the devices mounted on the circuit board, all within seconds.

To reduce operator error, Intrinsic Quality developed a fail acknowledge feature for the programming station. If a board failed to program, the station would not program again until the operator pressed an illuminated fail acknowledgement button. Data regarding the boards and programming are stored in a database for later reference.

The IQ Programming uses easily interchangeable Ingun fixtures. These fixtures can be taken out and exchanged in just seconds. They are also stackable allowing for easy storage when not in use. The IQ Programming Station is available in both a dual well or a single well Ingun fixture architecture.

The IQ Programming is capable of gang programming and functional testing. By using a FlashRunner FR04 Quattro programming engine instead of the FR01 ENG, the IQ programming station can program up to four devices at once. This can significantly decrease the programming time for panelized assemblies, and can be a cost effective option depending on the needs of the manufacturer. Due to the programming station’s unique design, functional testing of the assembly being programmed can be optionally implemented.

FlashRunner is often incorporated into ATE (automatic test equipment) for electronics manufacturing. It is capable of being integrated into ICT (in-circuit testers) and functional testing stations. FlashRunner's is one of the fastest programmers available on the market and programs at the memory speed limit of the target device. And unlike lab programmers, FlashRunner is designed for the production environment and is completely universal.
