Chicago Elder Law Attorney, Kerry Peck of Peck Bloom LLC, To Present On Ethics at U of I Seminar

The School of Social Work is hosting Kerry Peck at U of I for a half-day seminar on ethics. The Chicago litigation attorney will present on the ethical issues and reporting requirements social services professionals may face when doing their jobs.

The seminar, entitled "When Duty Calls: Ethics. How Do We Protect Our Clients, Young and Old?" takes place on Thursday, April 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Jane Addams Hull House Museum at 800 S. Halsted St, Chicago IL. The seminar costs $30 and includes continental breakfast.  

Hosted by the University of Illinois School of Social Work in Chicago, the seminar is a chance for social workers and social services professionals to earn 3.0 Continuing Education Credits (CEUs) while learning about ethical considerations they may face during the course of their jobs.

"There are many ethical issues that social workers may face during their careers. Specifically related to seniors are issues such as, does the client have the mental capacity to make sound decisions? I'm looking forward to delving into this and other issues at the seminar in April. It's always energizing to meet with professionals in the field, listen to the issues they face and help them understand their obligations, but also the resources available," noted Kerry Peck of Peck Bloom, LL.

•       The Health Care Surrogate Act, which is intended for use when no advanced directives have been executed.

•       The legal issues that arise when a patient’s competency is of concern.

•       A breakdown of the guardianship process within the court system and identifying when it is a necessary legal tool.

•       The requisites for appointing a guardian.
