Content removal companies such as this generate a steady income using escorts, strippers, and others to engage prominent businessmen or company corporates in a conversation online. Their objective is to create a negative encounter, perhaps a disagreement, outburst or fraternizing scheme, and record the conversation through a social media post or messaging service. Then they demand money from their victim to ultimately clear their name.

If the victim decides to pay, he is then asked to purchase their reputation repair program, and the company shares the profit with the individual scam artist,who made the original post. This is the purest form of corporate terrorism and blackmail.It's said to be protected by the First Amendment’s guarantee to the right of free speech. Furthermore, in order to avoid prosecution or lawsuits in the United States, Rip Off Report and Fraud Alert moved their ITT servers to Italy, making this an international scam.

Ripoff Report claims it is immune from liability due to a federal law known as the Communications Decency Act. This law says that websites are not liable for the content posted on their websites by third parties. (The law makes sense to a degree—if every time a person defamed another person in a Yahoo! chat room imposed legal liability on Yahoo!, there would be no chat rooms.)
