By: The Alliance for Eating Disorders Awareness The 25 year-old charismatic Spaniard, who is off to a hot start with two Top 5 finishes in the first three LPGA events of the season, aims to raise awareness by sharing her inspiring story of overcoming her eating disorder to find a healthy physical and mental balance in her life, paving the way for her to become a successful professional golfer. She will host the first annual “Beatriz Recari and Friends Alliance Golf Classic” this fall in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., with all proceeds benefiting the foundation, and will also act as a motivational speaker at events and speaking engagements around the nation. “We are thrilled to begin our partnership with Beatriz, as she is a true success story and role model for so many who are currently battling eating disorders,” said Johanna Kandel, the CEO and Founder of The Alliance for Eating Disorders Awareness. “It is an honor for our organization to have a world class athlete supporting our cause, as Beatriz’s experience in overcoming this illness and her willingness to share her story with others is an inspiration to thousands of individuals suffering around the world.” The naming of Recari as an ambassador for The Alliance comes on the tail end of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week (February 24-March 2), where communities all over the country hosted fundraisers, awareness seminars, and informational sessions to help provide education and treatment for those who need it. “This is a cause that really resonates with me, as I was able to overcome an eating disorder to find a healthy balance in my life and ultimately find success on the LPGA Tour,” Recari stated. “I am proud to represent The Alliance and I hope that by sharing my story, I am able to have a positive impact on the lives of others.” About Beatriz Recari Beatriz played more golf than any other player on the LPGA Tour in 2012, playing in all 28 events and making the cut in every single tournament, affectionately earning her the nickname “Iron Woman” by many of her peers and members of the press.
